Attack of the Killer Heads

In a time of darkness, when Hope seemed to have gone out for a pack of smokes and ended up on a boat to China, when television seemed to have become nothing more than an ad delivery service, when the most flawed candidate in the history of our state seemed like a credible threat, well, in those days the people of Michigan finally got a chance to have their say.

Vote, people, and get your friends, relatives and total strangers to do the same.

Michigan’s future isn’t for sale.

Betsy DeVos has her eye on something

November 2, 2006

Betsy DeVos has her eye on Michigan

I can’t figure out what, though. Frankly, it’s kind of creeping me out the way The Billionairess keeps walking around the mansion with a distant look in her eyes, a little half smile on her lips sing-songing “It’ll soon be over now, it’ll soon be over now.”

Rochelle Riley – Rochelle? Is that French? Can we get a deportation order here? – anyway “Madame Rochelle” has written a column titled Don’t forget Betsy DeVos that I hope everyone will skip reading and immediately write an outraged letter to the editor about.
Rile-em-up Riley says that my billion-dollar babycakes was once a nationally known Republican strategist (chairwoman of the Michigan Republican Party for two terms, member of the Republican National Committee and a delegate several times to Republican National Conventions) who state political observers once thought would someday make a great governor. Saulius Maximus responds to that with “She’s someone who would make a great candidate, a great leader. But I don’t see that as a real or practical option.” He does a nice job of delicately skirting the central issue: That Betsy DeVos terrifies even the Republican Party and must be kept far, far away from the media spotlight.

The Columnista then quotes Gil Zeigler, founder of Republicans for Granholm as saying that if Dick DeVos wins “I think she’ll be a very, very powerful first lady. I think he’s too extreme. I think the DeVoses are too extreme. They’re part of the group that has taken the party to the far right, and that’s not what our party was.” Gil, you’re just sore because Betsy played harder ball than a moderate like you could take.

I think the bottom line here is that a lot of people think that Rochelle’s bottom line is true:

Being first lady might be Betsy DeVos’ only chance to push Michigan to be more conservative, friendlier to families and corporations, and more dedicated to educating children in quality schools, even if those schools are private. So we should pay attention to every Betsy DeVos opinion, past or present.

Because if her husband wins, Michigan could have its first Team Governor.

Team Governor? Do I still get to use the stamper thing on the bills??

100 Michigan Dead

I can’t understand why all those right-wingers have the yellow magnet ribbon on their car but refuse to question Bush when he cuts VA benefits and makes excuses for not providing Soldiers with the proper equipment and resources to do the job.
-DJ The Young Grasshopper, An Iraq vet’s thoughts on 100 dead Michigan troops

It wouldn’t be fair to ask a candidate for Governor what he thinks about this fantastic essay by an Iraq war veteran about 100 Michigan troops killed in Iraq. Even if that candidate is a Republican. Unless of course that candidate is the largest donor to the candidacy of the President who has stage managed that war. And that candidate has a wife who said of soft money “We expect some things in return.”

It’s said that all is fair in love and war so I ask you this: You bought yourself a President, Dick DeVos. Do you feel you are getting your money’s worth?

Blackwater USA’s Erik Prince & Dick Devos: Brother-in-laws in Arms

October 20, 2006

Blackwater USA’s Erik Prince & Dick Devos: Brother-in-laws in Arms

Man, I’m glad that shouty guy is gone! He did want me to tell everyone in Michigan how deeply sorry he felt for them. See?? He was disappointed too!!

Anyway, now I can get back on the road to Take Back Michigan for Corporations & Special Interests on my spiffy new trike! The first stop I want to make is to address all those stories in the media about the connection between Dick Devos & Erik Prince, founder of Blackwater USA (one of the world’s largest private army).

What? Only ONE result? And it’s just a letter to the editor. Wow, I guess if the major news media doesn’t see a connection, then there’s no worries!

Still, our mud-wrestling lady Governor might not be content with sticking a big Amway tag on my chest and drag this issue into the election too. Take a memo, Jenny: when we Republicans say “Character matters”, we’re talking about other people’s character!

Erik Prince is the brother of my wife, Betsy Prince Devos. He is a former Navy Seal who worked in the first Bush White House. At the age of 29, he founded a private military company called Blackwater USA. Blackwater and Eric Prince are featured in the Movie Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers (watch a clip about Erik below!) and also in this post from some liberal guy on the Huffington lady’s blog. Speaking of outrageously liberal, here’s an article from The Nation called Blood is Thicker than Blackwater.

Ahhh! A book!! Burn it!!!!

Weak-kneed Willie over at Michigan Liberal noted that the Virginia Pilot had an in-depth series on Blackwater USA:

Blackwater has rocketed from obscurity to the big time in less than a decade. Peter Singer, author of “Corporate Warriors” and a scholar at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank, says that although Blackwater might not be the biggest player in the private military industry, “they’ve certainly gained the biggest profile.”

They’ve done it with deep-pocket backing, high-powered political connections and an uncanny knack for capitalizing on the violent milestones of a turbulent time

This comprehensive Blackwater USA feature (with lots of pictures and video) talks about how Blackwater soldiers are trained, has fun facts on what makes Blackwater different, how darn profitable the company is in these dangerous times, the company’s plans for the future and exciting stuff about how Blackwater operates right here on US soil! I bet that’s a side benefit you never thought of from Dick Devos as President of the USA Michigan’s Governor.

Erik has recently been in the news for donating to the Green Party to siphon votes from Dems in Pennsylvania. Genius! Media Mouse shows that the Prince family and the Devos family donate to a lot of the same organizations, and you can find a bunch more about this exciting topic by searching for “Dick Devos Erik Prince” on Google. Except for this article of course. This one will be our little secret.

Finally, this Unseen War link proves that I am not the weirdest thing on the Internet. Through it, I found this quote by some commie by the name of James Madison: “No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.”

PS: It would be really, really terrible if some Michigan newspaper reporter used these sources to write an article about the connection between Dick Devos & Erik Prince and Blackwater. Remember, news is what YOU say it is, media people!

Episode 69: In which the space-time continuum & the fourth wall are shattered by the venality of Dick Devos

October 19, 2006

Do What the OTHER Head Sez…
Greetings inhabitants of Earth 7723-Q. I am The Disembodied Head of Another Dick Devos, summoned here by the outrageous venality and baseness of your Dick Devos. I should explain that my world and my Dick Devos are quite different than yours. In my world “Mr. Dick” is beloved by all as a philanthropist and champion for social justice. His crowning achievement is an organization called “Amway” though which better-off people at the top of the pyramid seek to enrich the lives of their less fortunate “downline” by helping them in all ways to reach their full potential as human beings. I am told that your Earth’s Amway is more concerned with soap.

But I digress. There was a news item in one of your papers regarding a recent debate:

“Mr. Devos, if you have a beef with me, bring it on, I can take it. Use my name. But let’s leave the names of deceased children out of this,” Granholm said. “But if you’re determined to pick a fight, I hope you pick on someone your own size.”

Devos did not respond to that challenge during the debate, but said afterward that some of these children who died were the responsibility of the state, and it was the fault of the administration that they lost their lives.

“They deserve the dignity to have their names mentioned,” he said.

This caused something inside the Disembodied Head of your Disembodied Head of Dick Devos to snap. He began screaming “Yes, by all means, let’s dignify their tragic deaths by dragging them and their families and friends through the media! And can we get a photo-op with one of the little tricycles that they will never ride again … to add more dignity??!!”

Your Head then set to meddling with complex machinery and somehow tore a hole in space and time, summoning me here. I gave him a tricycle which seems to have calmed him down.

Now I am a gentle Head, not given to harsh words or judgement, but let me say that I am appalled by the actions of your Dick Devos. Using dead children or adults as political poker chips is frankly ghoulish and so far from “Governor-like” as to be utterly beyond my comprehension. To suggest that this cheap political trick somehow lends “dignity” to their memories … I suspect there are not the words for it in my world OR yours.

Your world is strange and frightens me, but I will remain here for a short while to answer questions and eat some deep fried cheese sticks, which are forbidden in my world. Besides, your Disembodied Head appears quite taken with his new tricycle and will likely be unavailable for most of the day.

What other people are saying…

Dick Devos (secret) Debate Plan

October 10, 2006

Dick Devos (secret) Debate Plan

Dick Devos caught a lot of flack at the last debate for Michigan Governor for not having a plan for either Michigan or the debate.  Because you have all been so loyal and I consider you like a downline to me, I have decided to share my simple plan for Michigan and tonight’s debate with you.

My plan is deceptively simple but I must say brilliant. For months, the Campaign for Big Bucks has been trying to hide the fact that Dick Devos is a Republican (look it up, the answer surprised me!). Tonight it’s time for Dick Devos to come out of the political closet, to embrace his Republican soul and use the power of Republican ideals like untrammeled free trade, tax breaks for corporations who outsource jobs and a ceaseless committment to making the lives of our richest Americans better and better to steamroll Governor Granholm.

Now a lot of people might say “Dick, your vaunted Republican ideals are destroying our nation by taking money from education and essential services. You are racking up monstrous debts and putting our nation in hock to foreign bankers.” To them I say: “Don’t worry about the fact that your share of the national debt is climbing faster than a monkey after the last banana on the tree – the important thing is that I am doing just fine. What’s more, all my rich friends who attend $1000 a plate Republican fundraisers are doing just fine too!”

Dick's House is a hell of a lot bigger than your rathole!Do you think we’re just going to keep all that money for ourselves and pass our fortunes along to our families intact by repealing the estate tax? Those of you who answered “Yes” should be ashamed of yourselves. Being rich is hard, and it’s even harder if you don’t pay people to clean up after you and serve you.

So rest assured Michigan, that as the fortunes of Dick Devos and his rich friends grow through our support of policies like slashing the estate tax and encouraging outsourcing of not just jobs, but whole companies, we will find plenty of jobs for you to do.

Better dress for it though. Those mansion gutters can be such a mess.

Librul ‘Lert CHUDD Intelligence has identified that the Michigan Liberal Army (MLA) plans a liveblogging event in Grand Rapids and on MichiganLiberal.com.  In order to thwart their nefarious schemes, the Head will be taking the fight to them!

Lee Iacocca Ad for Dick Devos would warm my heart … if I had one of course

September 25, 2006

There’s been so much negativity and attacks lately that I thought we should all take a minute and watch one of Michigan’s most beloved corporate icons and pitchmen, Mr. Lee Iacocca in the Devos campaign‘s latest TV ad, What He Makes.

Except that you CAN’T watch it here. For security reasons. We don’t want information just FLYING ALL OVER THE INTERNETS now do we? Of course not. Security. Secrecy. Need to know basis, these must be our watchwords in our quest to put Dick Devos in the Governor’s office. Or Presidency. I forget which The Billionairess said something about stepping stones. I was coloring so I had to concentrate on that. So anyway, you’ll have to click to go see the ad. Until some commie with a DVR rips the commercial or course.
I should point out that Lee Iacocca doesn’t actually live in Michigan any more and that this commercial was filmed at his California home.

I should also point out that the commercial never actually mentions Amway/Alticor/Quixtar as Dick Devos’s business. But we all know that Dick Devos is Amway, right?

The important part to focus on the image of Dick Devos as a go-getter, a Michigan manufacturer who “toughed things out”. Except that Dick Devos actually sent a boatload of money to China and 1400 Michigan workers to the unemployment line when the going got tough.

Christine Barry sez Iacocca and DeVos have a few things in common

Iacocca closed plants and cut nearly half of the workforce at Chrysler. DeVos closed distribution centers and cut nearly half of his employees at Amway.

Iacocca asked the government for a $1.2 billion bailout. DeVos asked the government for a $300 million tax gift.

A bunch of other stuff comparing the records of Lee Iococca & Dick Devos.

Still, you have to admit that Lee Iacocca delivers a warm and touching tribute to Dick Devos. Let’s all gaze in Lee Iococca’s soothing eyes and turn away from everything else. Yes. Sleepier and sleepier, Michigan.
